Teens aged 14 and 15 seriously ill in hospital after using ketamine and drinking alcohol

Two underage teenagers have been left seriously ill after taking drugs and alcohol. North Wales Police has launched an investigation following the "extremely concerning" incidents which left a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old needing hospital treatment after taking suspected ketamine.

Both youngsters, from the Flintshire area, were taken to Alder Hey Hospital on Merseyside last week in separate - and unrelated - incidents and officers are appealing for help from the public with their enquires. They specifically want to speak to anyone with information about these incidents or the supply of illegal substances in the area.

Prevention Hub Inspector Geraint Richards said: "The supply of illicit substances to children is appalling. Appropriate robust action will be taken against those suspected of any involvement. School liaison officers are contacting and visiting secondary schools in the local area to educate young people about the dangerous and potentially serious consequences of experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

"If anyone has any information about either of the above incidents, or the supply of illegal substances, specifically that of ketamine, I urge members of the public to contact the police.” You can get more local news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

Community services manager from the Harm Reduction Service, Kirsty Brooke, added: "The best way to stay safe and avoid the risks of using drugs and alcohol is to not use them at all. But if you do intend to use alcohol and/or drugs, it is a good idea to make sure you have the right information to help you make safer choices. Using any drug can be risky, but mixing different drugs and alcohol together can make the effects of the substances unpredictable and may lead to you feeling unwell."

If anyone has any information about either of the above incidents, or the supply of illegal substances, contact the police via their website, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers quoting the reference code 23000377996.
