A group of teens have been given “stern words” by police – after they attempted to film a TikTok video on the side of a major motorway. Traffic officers removed the four children from the M1, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, after they were spotted near the Armco barriers yesterday (May 2) afternoon at around 3pm.
Following the police response, a spokesperson for National Highways Yorkshire said that motorways were “no place” for making viral internet videos.
Writing on Twitter, they said: “If there is one message we would like to firmly get across today it's a #RoadSafety message. The motorway is no place to make #TikTok videos. #TrafficOfficers & @syptweet removed FOUR children to safety away from our network with some stern words of wisdom."
This is the second incident of trespass on the M1 motorway in less than a month after two teens stopped traffic while “stargazing” in the central reservation in early April. A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police said that both young men, aged 17 and 18, were fined after officers found them lying down in between the passing traffic.
They said: “When we arrived, having stopped all traffic, we found two young males laid on the central reservation ‘stargazing’. Both removed, poor attitudes challenged and issued with tickets.”
