Teenagers attacked with glass bottle and 'burning substance' in Tynemouth sparking police appeal

Officers are appealing for information after two teenagers were attacked by a large group in Tynemouth who threw a glass bottle at one and sprayed a substance that "burned" at another.

Northumbria Police is investigating the serious assault which occurred near Scorchio Ice Cream on Grand Parade at 9.10pm on Wednesday August 10.

The two male victims, aged 18 and 19, were walking past the premises towards Front Street when they got into an altercation with a large group who were walking in the opposite direction towards the aquarium.

Police said one of the victims has then had a glass bottle thrown at him, while the other was sprayed by an unknown substance which resulted in a burning sensation. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible, and officers are now appealing for anybody who witnessed the assault to come forward. A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers investigating a serious assault in Tynemouth have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible, and officers are now appealing for anybody who witnessed the assault to come forward. They are especially keen to hear from anybody who was driving in the area and who may have dashcam footage showing a large group of people – mostly male and of whom some were topless – walking down Grand Parade about that time.
