Teenagers arrested on bus after police uncover weapons

Two teenagers were arrested on a bus after police uncovered knives. Officers boarded the bus after reports of a 'disturbance' in Salford just after midnight this morning (Saturday).

Greater Manchester Police officers received a report of a disturbance at a store on Church Street, Eccles, at around 12.05am. Officers attended and, after boarding a bus, detained five males.

During a search of the group, three knives were found and seized. Two 15-year-old boys, were arrested on suspicion of weapon and drug offences.

The two teenagers remain in police custody for questioning. Another boy was referred to Youth Offending Services.

Detective Superintendent Chris Packer, of GMP's Salford district, said: "I am pleased that we have removed these three knives from our community. We are all well aware of the devastation these weapons can cause.

"This news should build public trust and confidence that Greater Manchester Police is committed to responding to incidents and emergencies to fight, prevent and reduce crime whilst keeping people safe. I would like to use this opportunity to highlight that intelligence from members of the public is really important to us and encourage anyone who knows or suspect an individual is carrying a weapon to report it immediately."
