A teenager has been left with "potentially life-changing injuries" after a terrifying attack in Newcastle.
The 16-year-old was assaulted in Elswick Park on Friday and was taken to hospital with injuries "consistent with a bladed article", police say.
Officers received a report the youngster had been sitting on a bench near the leisure centre when he was approached by two males, who then assaulted him before leaving the scene.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital having sustained serious injuries to his hands, forearms and shoulder and potentially life-changing injuries to his face. He remains in hospital at this time.
"Officers have since launched an investigation and have carried out a number of lines of enquiry, including speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV of the area."
Police are now appealing for any further witnesses to come forward and are especially keen to trace a man who is believed to have witnessed the incident and offered help to the victim, but left before officers could speak to him.
The man, or anyone with information, is asked to get in touch with police by using the Tell us Something page on the force's website quoting 004569T/21.
