Montreal police say a teenager who was stabbed during an altercation between students outside a Montreal-area high school on Tuesday has died.
Police say the 16-year-old boy died today in hospital.
The Lester B. Pearson School Board says in a statement the victim was a John Rennie High School student and was among those involved in an altercation between two groups of students near St. Thomas High School.
Both schools are located in Pointe-Claire, a suburb on Montreal's West Island.
A second teen, 15, was also stabbed during the altercation but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the case.
A police spokeswoman says the case has been transferred to the major crimes division and an autopsy will be performed on the boy.
The school board expressed its condolences and said grief counsellors and psychologists will be made available for all who need support.
"He was only 16 years old with a bright future ahead of him," board chairperson Judy Kelley said in a statement. "The entire school board is shaken by this unimaginable loss.”
