Teenager killed months before birth of son 'would have been the best daddy'

The heartbroken family of a man who was killed months before the birth of his son said he "would have been the best daddy."

Michael Toohey, 18, of Oil Street was beaten to death outside an internet café on London Road in Liverpool city centre on Saturday, April 16. He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital with multiple injuries but died a short time later.

A number of people have since been arrested, and two charged, on suspicion of Michael's murder. The 18-year-old was three months away from becoming a dad at the time of his death.

To mark their first Father's Day without the dad-to-be on Sunday, June 19, Michael's brother shared a touching tribute to him. He wrote: "Happy Father's Day our young child, you would have been the best daddy ever.

"We love you forever our boy, you mean the world to us."

The family decorated a marquee with photos of Michael along with balloons, fairy lights, flowers and candles as they let off balloons in his memory. A message on one of the balloons said: "To my daddy up in heaven I love you so much. I wish I got to meet you but I know you watch over me from heaven."

Michael's family released a powerful tribute through Merseyside Police in April, in which they described him as a "beautiful, well-mannered, placid young man". They said Michael and his girlfriend, Rhianna Draper, had recently moved into a new house together to start a family of their own and "he was so excited for what the future had in store for them."

Sharing her own tribute to Michael at the time, Rhianna said: "He made me the happiest girl alive, we had it all right now and it’s all gone in the blink of an eye. He just wanted the best life with me and his boy who he always talked about no matter what.

"I wish I could have him back, life’s not fair, this isn’t fair, why oh why."

Michael Williams, 24, of Carlake Grove, Walton, and Anthony Williams, 31, of Hillbrook Drive, Walton, have been charged with murder.

Eight others have been arrested on suspicion of Michael's murder. A 34-year-old woman from Fazakerley was also arrested in April on suspicion of assisting an offender and later released on bail.
