Teenager injured after getting stuck between two vehicles following police chase

Police are appealing after a police chase ended with a teenager getting trapped between two vans. Officers began a pursuit of a Toyota HiAce in Dukinfield, Tameside, that was suspected to have been involved in a number of theft offences at around 11.30pm on Friday (September 2)

The vehicle was chased to Wheeler Street, Openshaw, where around 10 minutes later the driver and the teenage passenger left the van. The driver was able to flee the scene but in trying to get out the teenager became trapped between their vehicle and another parked van.

The road was cordoned off while the teenager was treated by ambulance staff and further investigations were carried out. Residents reported that the young man became stuck when the van he had exited rolled and trapped him against a parked van.

The teenager was taken to hospital for non life-threatening injuries where they remain in a stable condition. Greater Manchester Police are now appealing for information as the driver of the Toyota remains unknown and want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 11:30pm on Friday 2 September 2022, police responded to an incident in Dukinfield, Tameside. Officers were following a Toyota HiAce in Dukinfield that was suspected to have been involved in theft offences.

"The vehicle was pursued through Tameside to Openshaw when the driver of the Toyota and his teenage passenger de-camped from the vehicle in Openshaw at around 11:40pm. The driver fled the scene whilst the teenager, upon getting out of the car, was trapped between this car and a parked vehicle on Wheler Street, Openshaw.

"The teenage male suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was taken to hospital to receive treatment, where he remains in a stable condition. The driver of the Toyota remains unknown at this time and officers are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry.

"Greater Manchester Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or may have footage that could help us identify the suspect."
