Teenager in critical condition following attack outside Dublin nightclub

A young man is fighting for his life after he was seriously assaulted outside a nightclub in Clondalkin in the early hours of this morning.

The teenager was attacked outside Vela Bar and Restaurant where a Leaving Cert results party was being held. It's understood he suffered stab injuries.

He was raced to Connolly Hospital following the attack where he remains in a critical condition. Gardaí have completed their technical examination of the scene and the area is no longer sealed off.

A resident who lives near the venue told Dublin Live she was shocked to find out what happened when she came home this morning.

She said: "I came home this morning and I didn't have a clue what was going on. I saw the tape and then I heard what happened.

"It's madness, you just don't know [what could happen on a night out]. My young fella is the same age. I'm more than shocked."

Dublin Mid-West TD Mark Ward told Dublin Live that last night was a busy night with Leaving Certificate results celebrations underway. He said: "The community of Clondalkin is devastated to hear the news today, it was a busy night due to the Leaving Cert results being released and there was lots of people around.

"I urge anybody with information to contact the gardai if possible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this very difficult time and I wish them a speedy recovery," he added.

Meanwhile, Clondalkin Cllr Francis Timmons also said that he was shocked to hear of the "awful" attack. He said: "I was shocked to hear of an awful attack on a teenager on a night out last night, my thoughts are with the person and their family at this time. Anyone with information should contact the guards."

Gardai have appealed for anyone with any information in relation to the attack to contact them. A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Clondalkin were alerted to a serious assault that occurred at a nightclub in Clondalkin, Dublin 22 in the early hours of Saturday morning 3rd September, 2022.

"One male teenager received a number of injuries and was removed from the scene to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown by ambulance. His condition is described as critical.

"Anyone with information can contact Clondalkin on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 11 or any Garda Station. Investigations ongoing."
