An 18-year-old man has died after a horror early morning crash with a lorry in the Highlands, police have confirmed.
The incident took place on the A9 around 6.05am on Friday where the 18-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Dalmagarry, around 10 miles south of the Inverness, following reports of the collision.
Five fire crews were sent to the scene and spent more than nine hours tackling a blaze that broke out following the smash.
Police said the 18-year-old's next of kin are aware, and the driver of the lorry was uninjured in the smash.
The road was closed until around 11.15pm and enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding the crash remain ongoing.
The flames were so ferocious that crews had to be swapped out to relieve those who had spent hours at the scene.
Dramatic images from the scene show the twisted wreckage of a dark grey Fiat 500 with airbags deployed, and firefighters dampening down the remnants of a goods vehicle.
Sergeant David Miller, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased, along with everyone else affected by this incident.”
