Teenager died after being 'hit by a train' at Eccles Railway Station, inquest hears

A man who was found dead on the tracks near Eccles Railway Station has been named as an inquest opened into his death.

Bolton Coroner's Court heard that Jakub Halani, 19, of Salford, died from 'multiple traumatic injuries' after he was 'hit by a train', on February 2. Jakub, who was born in Poland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police coroner's officer Rachel O'Driscoll told a brief hearing: "On 2 February 2023, Jakub was hit by a train at Eccles Railway Station in Salford. Jakub was pronounced life extinct on February 2 2023, at the scene.

"Jakub was formally identified by a trainee fingerprint expert at British Transport Police, using a fingerprint taken from his home address." The inquest heard that pathologist Dr Usha Chandran carried out a post mortem on Jakub's body and recorded 'multiple traumatic injuries' as the provisional cause of his death.

Area coroner Prof Dr Alan Walsh requested statements from Jakub's GP, mental health services and British Transport Police. He then adjourned the inquest until July 3.
