Teenager dealing Class A drugs sent into youth custody

A teenage drug dealer running a drug supply line in Weston-super-Mare has been sent to youth custody. Jayley Rickman was caught supplying crack cocaine, cocaine and heroin.

The 19-year-old, of Hay Grove in Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to possessing a blade and, dangerous driving without a driving licence or insurance. He also admitted being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine between May and December last year. Drugs recovered in the case were valued at £3,500.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for three years and nine months. He told Rickman: "You expected to gain and there was an element of a management role."

Neil Treharne, prosecuting, told Bristol Crown Court in July last year police spotted Rickman and another man on a motorcycle on the Bournville estate in Weston. When they fell off the bike police seized wraps of drugs on the ground and Rickman was arrested, the court heard.

Mr Treharne said in September last year police spotted a group of people near Locking Road, Weston-super-mare. When they scattered Rickman discarded a machete and police found him with £204 cash.

The court heard in October last year police searched an address where Rickman had been staying and found drugs, a zombie knife and a 'burner' phone. Drugs turned out to be crack cocaine valued at £1,000 and cocaine valued at £1,500.

Analysis of phones retrieved from Rickman showed evidence of drugs being advertised for sale and drug delivery details. The court also heard Rickman was seen to ride a moped dangerously near a school, before he fell off, was arrested and made no comment when interviewed.

Jack Barry, defending, said: "Mr Rickman has been remorseful and apologetic. He has shown awareness of his actions."

Mr Barry said his client had had a difficult childhood. It was Rickman's case that he was not the leading person in the dealing operation.
