Teenager 'cried' when she heard the 'voice of an angel' on hospital corridor

A teenager has said she cried when she heard the 'voice of an angel' on hospital corridor after experiencing a "really low" moment in her life.

In October 2020, Ela Heeley, 18 ,from St Helens, was staying in Whiston Hospital for around four days due to mental health reasons.

The teenager, who said she was experiencing a "really low and confusing point" in her life said she was brought to tears when she heard singing coming down the corridor late one night.

Ela, who also loves to sing, said she is now feeling better but described the moment in the hospital as "beautiful" during a "distressing time."

She told the ECHO: "It was a really low and confusing point in my life. They’d just sent my friend home because they didn’t allow overnight stays so it was my first night on my own.

"It was late at night and I just heard singing come down the corridor outside.

"I spoke to the nurse when she came in to see me. I sing too so we had a chat about that.

"I think I cried when I heard it, it was just so nice to have such a beautiful moment when I was feeling so distressed."

Ela said she decided to post the message on social media months later as she is now doing a lot better and wanted to share her positive experience.

She also said the reaction from the public has been great and that through this, she has been able to reach the nurse.

The 18-year-old added: "I’d honestly just say thank you. It must be so difficult working in a hospital during covid but she clearly found a way to make it easier for everyone around her."

Her post of Facebook reads: "Been meaning to put a post on for a while - in October I was really ill on the children’s ward at Whiston. A nurse (I think her name was Cynthia) started singing the song Halo on the ward.

"She had the most amazing voice and that one moment gave me so much happiness at what was a really rough time.

"If she’s on here or anyone knows her, I just wanted to pass on my thanks and let her know how much that meant to me."
