Jonty Bravery: Teenager accused of throwing boy, 6, off Tate Modern viewing platform is named

A teenager accused of trying to kill a six-year-old boy by throwing him off a Tate Modern viewing platform can be identified for the first time today.

Jonty Bravery, who turns 18 today, is facing an attempted murder charge over the August incident, when the young victim fell around 100ft from a balcony at the world famous gallery.

It is said Bravery picked up the boy and deliberately threw him over the side of the tenth floor viewing platform in an attempt to kill him.

The teenage suspect was not named in earlier reports of the case as he was still 17-years-old.

But Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, the Recorder of London, yesterday ruled that Bravery can be identified as an adult defendant, rejecting a legal bid to maintain the teenager's anonymity.

Bravery, from Ealing, is currently in custody awaiting trial for the alleged attack on August 4.

The victim, a French national on holiday with his parents, suffered brain injuries, broken arms and legs, and a fractured spine in the horror plunge.

His family posted online an update on his condition this week, saying: "Our little boy begins to do his best to move his tongue, his right arm and hand.

"We see his efforts. We believe with all our heart that he will find the way, from his head, to do everything again.

“He is very brave. He keeps on smiling and reacting to our jokes. We begin to see also, unfortunately, his suffering.

“He doesn’t understand why he cannot manage to eat or swallow a bit of yoghurt and he wants so much to be able to do it. We have to be strong for him."

Bravery is next due in court on November 7 when he will be asked to enter a plea to the charge of attempted murder.

A trial date has been set for February 3 next year.
