A teenage thug who tried to kill a 14-year-old boy with a broken bottle before boasting about it to a friend was jailed today for four years and two months.
The 17-year-old was part of a mob who chased the young victim near a viaduct in Kilmarnock last October 24.
Police later arrested the attacker and went on to discover an audio clip of him discussing the horrific crime.
During it, he bragged: "I just started plugging f*** out him, mate.
"I think he's in a coma. He tried to get up, stabbed him in the chest, stabbed him in the rib cage, just heavy started doing him, bro."
The 14-year-old suffered serious injuries, but luckily survived.
The thug was on bail at the time having been part of an armed robbery at a shop in the town before a brave worker grabbed a cricket bat and chased them out.
He pled guilty to attempted murder at the High Court in Glasgow.
The boy further admitted to the assault and robbery as well as a charge under the Firearms Act.
No-one involved in the murder bid can be identified due to their ages.
Judge John McCormick put the boy on a seven years two months extended sentence.
He will be locked up for four years and two months before being put under supervision for three years.
The court heard that the victim had been walking with friends when he heard someone shouting he was a "chicken".
The boy fled, but was immediately tailed by the large group of young males.
Prosecutor Greg Farrell said: "He was tripped from behind and fell to the ground.
"He was aware of being punched several times by five or six males.
"He then saw (the 17-year-old) making a stabbing motion and he thought he was being hit with a glass bottle."
The bleeding victim managed to escape to a nearby bus station, where he was helped by staff.
He was soon rushed to hospital with his condition described as "critical".
The boy had three wounds to his chest, back and arm. He also suffered a collapsed lung and was in hospital for more than a week.
Medics concluded without help his life would have been at threat.
Police meantime discovered a broken Buckfast bottle at the scene - the only part missing being its neck.
The attacker was traced from CCTV although while initially claiming he "knew a boy had been stabbed", he insisted a "friend" was responsible.
It was on October 29 that officers recovered the audio clip of the thug confessing to what he had done.
The court heard he had earlier been involved a raid at Kelly's Stores in Kilmarnock.
An air gun was fired at a worker striking him on the head during the robbery last August 31.
The staff member picked up a cricket bat before the gang ran off stealing alcohol before they left.
The 17-year-old was identified from CCTV due to the clothes he was wearing at the time.
