A teenage mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after falling 40ft into a ravine. The boy was thought to have suffered hip and leg injuries following the accident near the River Roch in Heywood.
Volunteers from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene at 5pm on Tuesday. The lad was taken to hospital by the air ambulance.

A spokesperson for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team said: "Tonight (Tuesday) just after 5pm, the team were passed details of a job by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team for an ongoing incident with the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust in our area. A young teenager had taken a fall off his mountain bike into a ravine near Heywood.
"It was believed to be 40ft down the embankment towards the River Roch, suffering from potential hip/leg amongst possibilities of other injuries. The team were mobilised and members made their way to the RV in Heywood - some from our base to respond in team vehicles, other directly from home/work, with a couple also departing from a first aid cover the team were doing at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom (leaving other still onsite to cover the event don’t worry!)
"The North West Air Ambulance Charity were called too, and were taking off as team members arrived on scene. The team remained mobile until confirmed the casualty had indeed been taken in the air ambulance and met the NWAS crew as they returned to their vehicle at the road. As always we wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery."
