Teenage driver taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries amid weather warnings

POLICE Scotland are appealing for information after a serious crash left a teenage motorist in a critical condition amid weather warnings.

Officers were called to a report of a crash involving a blue Ford Focus car on the B743 south of Mauchline, East Ayrshire at around 6.45am on Friday.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries. His condition is described as critical.

The incident follows a day of travel issues due to a red weather warning issued by the Met Office for Storm Eowyn.

Gusts of wind as strong as 100mph were been recorded in parts of Scotland and travel disruption has been widespread, with bridges and roads forced to close.

Sergeant Chris McColm of Road Policing said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to speak to anyone who can assist.

“If you were in the area around the time of the crash please check your dash-cam to see if you have captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0577 of Friday, 24 January, 2025.
