Teenage girl in 'critical' condition after being hit by car near Scottish city

A 17-year-old girl is in a “critical” condition in hospital following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian near Edinburgh.

Police were called to reports of a crash involving a black MG HS car on Haddington Road in Musselburgh at around 4.15pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended the incident and a teenage girl was taken to hospital, where her condition is described as “critical”.

The 37-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital, and was arrested in relation to the incident.

Another man, 43, who had been travelling as a passenger in the vehicle, did not require medical treatment.

The road was closed following the crash while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Dominic Doyle said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and I would ask anyone who has yet to speak to us to get in touch.

“All details are important, even if they seem insignificant, please do pass them on.

“If you have any information regarding the collision or saw the vehicle prior to the collision, please do contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2415 of Friday, 18 April 2025.
