Teenage boy suffers facial burns in incident involving deodorant can at Whyalla Norrie

The boy was taken to the Whyalla Hospital on Thursday afternoon. (ABC News)

A teenage boy was taken to hospital on Thursday with serious burns to his face after an incident involving a deodorant can, the SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) says.

The 13-year-old was taken to the Whyalla Hospital on Thursday afternoon by ambulance from an address in nearby Whyalla Norrie.

SAAS said it had responded to a report that the boy had suffered facial burns while playing with friends at a local skate park at about 3:30pm.

Details about the incident are unclear, including how the deodorant was set alight.

But the boy's injuries are not believed to have been the result of an attack and are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are aware of the matter but are not investigating.
