Teenage AFL Fan Ejected & Handed ‘Youth Caution’ After Throwing An Object At Aliir Aliir

A teenage Sydney Swans fan has reportedly copped a two-year ban from the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after he threw an object at Port Adelaide’s Aliir Aliir during Sunday’s AFL game.

During Sunday’s AFL Port Adelaide Vs Sydney Swans clash, things got heated between a young spectator and key defender Aliir Aliir.

In the final quarter, Aliir dodged an object that was thrown by the young fan. Per the Herald Sun, the object was a cardboard clapper, which is handed out to fans in attendance.

The pro stopped and engaged in a brief, heated exchange before continuing on with the match.

Police then confirmed that the young fan was removed from the stadium and was interviewed by police and SCG staff.

“On Sunday 20 April 2025, officers attached to Central Metro Region were in attendance at an AFL game at a sport stadium on Driver Avenue, Moore Park,” a NSW Police statement read, per the Herald Sun.

“During the game, a 16-year-old boy allegedly threw a banner at one of the players. Police spoke to the boy before they issued a youth caution.”

Venues NSW also confirmed to the publication that the teen was handed a “banning notice”, which means he will be banned from the SCG for two years.

After the game, the Sydney Swans issued a statement where they said they’ve reached out to Aliir following the incident.

“The club has reached out to Aliir, and we will continue to educate fans that any form of abusive behaviour is not welcome,” the Swans shared.

“The Sydney Swans would like to reiterate our zero-tolerance stance on all forms of abuse.”

Family of banned Sydney Swans fan speaks out

On Monday, Jack, a man who claims to be the grandfather, said the family is “distraught” by the whole incident in an interview on 3AW.

“Whatever he has done, I don’t condone, but what I’m getting really upset about is the garbage that’s being put on social media,” he said.

“He did a stupid thing. His mother is distraught, his grandmother is distraught, I’m really upset.

“He’s a stupid kid who doesn’t realise what he’s done and the ramifications to his family are frightening, I’m just worried about his future.”

Just last year, a 23-year-old AFL fan was charged by police and was handed a lifetime ban after he threw a bottle at a goal umpire during a St Kilda Vs Carlton game.
