Teen Rodeo Star Dies In Tragic Car Accident

A devastating single-vehicle car accident in rural Kansas has left the community mourning the loss of a talented young rodeo star. Emma Brungardt, a 19-year-old rodeo champion and Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas 2024, tragically lost her life in the accident that occurred on Friday night in Thomas County.

The accident involved a 2007 Ford F250 pickup truck traveling southbound on County Road 21 when it veered off the road at a Y intersection and collided with a tree row. Despite wearing her seatbelt, Brungardt succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver and four other passengers, including fellow rodeo team members and a work study, survived the crash with possible injuries.

Colby Community College, where Brungardt was a sophomore majoring in equine management and production, confirmed her passing on Monday morning. Described as a 'sweet soul' with a positive attitude, Brungardt's impact on those around her was profound.

Aside from her rodeo achievements, Brungardt was actively involved in organizations like FFA and the Kansas High School Rodeo Association, showcasing her love for the western way of life. She was attending Colby Community College on a rodeo scholarship, further highlighting her dedication to her craft.

The loss of Emma Brungardt has deeply impacted the rodeo community and all those who knew her. Her legacy as a first-generation cowgirl and a shining light in the arena will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.
