Teen Mom star Cory Wharton was overcome with emotion after his 4-month-old daughter Maya Wharton was placed on a ventilator during a health crisis after her birth.
The reality star, 31, welcomed his youngest daughter with Taylor Selfridge back in June, with the newborn diagnosed with coronary heart disease when she was born.
The dad-of-three opened up about the terrifying diagnosis and discussed the procedures she will need in the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.
After her first of many heart surgeries, Cory said: "My daughter’s still in the hospital. Now the first surgery did go well, which I’m so thankful for but it’s so hard because she just had that surgery yesterday.
"And so to walk in and see her still lethargic from the anaesthesia, you know, my daughter has a ventilator down her throat, oxygen tubes in her nose."
He added: "It’s a lot, man, and I don’t really know how to deal with this."
Cory later updated his ex-girlfriend Cheyenne Floyd, who he shares daughter Ryder Wharton with, on Maya's health.
Speaking to Ryder, he said: "I got some good news. Guess what? Your sister’s here. You’re a big sis. You wanna see a picture of her?"
Cory became emotional as he said: "Now, remember I told you she had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days? You can’t see her right this second because she just had surgery, but I promise you can see her soon."
Addressing the whole room, he added: "Her procedure went well. Some days are dark days, but today is not one of them."
Just last month, Cory gave fans an update on Maya's health on Instagram.
Sharing an adorable picture of the new arrival, he wrote: "She turns 3 months old today, I wanna say thank you to the CHD heart community, everyone has sent us tons of messages and uplifting words thank you guys.
"Maya‘s heart requires two more open heart surgeries.
"The plan is to have one of the surgeries done in October, and then after that we don’t have to worry about it until she’s four years old, so that’s nice.
"Maya is so strong every day she amazes me. This girl‘s already gonna have two heart surgeries completed and beat Covid she’s a warrior. Love you Maya."
