An investigation is underway after a teenager was killed in a drive-by shooting during a brawl at a popular Newcastle beach.
The teen was part of a group fighting in the Bar Beach carpark in Newcastle, near the popular Merewether Beach, around 11.40pm on Wednesday night.
Police say a white SUV pulled up and an armed man got out of the vehicle and fired the gun before driving away.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the teenager for the gunshot wound, however he died at the scene.

The teen is yet to be formally identified. Police believe he was 18 years old.
About 20 minutes after the incident at Bar Beach, emergency services received reports of a vehicle fire on Croudace Road in Tingira Heights, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald. The burning car, located roughly 13 kilometres south of the car park, is believed to be the SUV involved in the shooting.
A crime scene has been established with inquiries underway, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Anyone with relevant information or dashcam vision of the incident is urged to contact Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
