Teen killed after being knocked down by taxi named

A teenager who died after being knocked down by a taxi has been named as Nathan Smithurst.

The 19-year-old died when he was hit by a taxi on Scotland Road, in the early hours of Sunday, July 24. Paramedics rushed to the crash, at around 2.30am, but after suffering a serious head injury Nathan was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have now released a photograph of Nathan, as tributes for the teenager flood in. Merseyside police said they are currently being supported by specially trained officers.

Sharing the ECHO's article, Guy Nicholas said: "Rest in peace Nathan." Brad Hallett added: "Sad that, rest easy Nathan." Elliott Ledgerton also said: "Rest in peace Smiffy lad, can't believe ye gone bro."

Sam Sefton paid tribute and said: "My heart genuinely hurts. Such an incredible lad with so much potential taken far too soon. Rip mate, you were loved by so many." People also expressed their heartbreak at the teenager's death.

Sharon Davies said "Absolutely heartbreaking. Thinking of the young man’s family at this sad time. May he rest in eternal peace. Forever young", and Tracey Thompson commented: "So very sad, thoughts with his family and friends".

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "On behalf of Nathan’s family I would ask for their privacy to be respected as they begin to process the tragic events of Sunday morning. We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this collision, If you have any CCTV from nearby premises or dashcam footage from your vehicle please contact police If you have not done so already.

"Every piece of information, however small could make a big difference to our investigations. Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk.
