Teen hit by bus, mum struggling to buy school uniforms, police ramp up arrests

Gangsters 'frustrated' as streets too hot for business after spate of murders

Organised crime groups have found the streets of Liverpool too hot for business after the murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel, police believe.

Merseyside Police have ramped up operations to disrupt serious and organised crime since the death of the nine-year-old, as well as the firearms murders of Ashley Dale, 28, and Sam Rimmer, 22 - which all took place within the space of six days.

Since Olivia's murder, Merseyside Police officers have arrested 349 people and executed 88 warrants across Merseyside, based on "information from communities". The force has also stop-searched 942 people and carried out 75 open land searches.

Police vehicles marked with the livery of Lancashire, Cumbria and Cheshire police services have all been visible on operations within Merseyside in recent days. Yesterday, Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen, head of investigations at Merseyside, put some numbers on the force's efforts to tackle serious and organised crime.

Road closed and air ambulance lands after 'teen hit by bus'

A road was closed after a teenage boy was reportedly "hit by a bus" and airlifted to hospital.

Green Lane in Maghull was closed at around 5pm on Friday, September 2 after reports of a crash involving a teenage boy. Eyewitnesses said an air ambulance had to land at South Meade and transport the teenage boy to hospital.

Police cordoned off the road at both ends with divisions in place. A police forensics team could be seen taking photos with evidence markers clearly noticeable on the road. A bus could also been seen within the police cordon.

Mum 'struggling' after school uniform cost 'wiped out' her bank account

A struggling mum has been forced to "cut back" after buying "ridiculously priced" school uniform items.

As the cost of living increases, many households will be finding ways to keep costs at a minimum. As bills skyrocket and food prices increase, there are concerns about families struggling this winter. The worried mum, who has spent just over £300 on a list of uniform items, said she is having to "cut back" on things like her food shop so she can afford the "ridiculously priced" items as she questioned why cheaper alternatives could not be used.

She added: "What about parents with several children? It's not cheap and with everything going on, you shouldn't have to be in debt over a uniform."
