A teenager who worked for Greggs says a "foul" customer drove her to quit her position at the iconic bakery. The 17-year-old claims the man would repeatedly "gaslight" her in an attempt to get free items while she tried to do her duties.
The woman, who posted a scathing message on social media on her final day working for the pasty giant, revealed she felt that she had to quit the Washford Trade Park store in Worcestershire due to the customer's actions, reports BirminghamLive.
The customer, who would feign that he ordered a different item to what he was served, was said to have had a history of harassing staff at the store, including shouting at workers. He was branded an "absolute freak" by the teenager.
She anonymously posted on Spotted Redditch's Facebook page: "I don't know how to really describe you other than foul. You are one of the main reasons I handed my notice in last week. You tried to gaslight me into thinking you said you wanted a coffee when you didn't say you wanted one, and this is one of your many ways of trying to get a free coffee.
"You then started shouting at me demanding my name and demanded I took the screens down and turned the radio off and told me to get my hearing checked, so I shouted at you because you were gaslighting me. I knew that because you do it with the rest of the staff which is disgusting. I'm not sure why you think you're billy big boots and special to everyone else because you're not.
"At your grown age you should be embarrassed. You came in today on my last shift as well and tried to gaslight me again into getting a free coffee and tried to cause a scene. You then turned to my co-worker as I walked off to get something and said to her 'that woman didn't give me my coffee', to which her response was 'you didn't ask for one'.
"I don't know how gaslighting two seventeen-year-olds and shouting in the face of one of them makes you feel good about yourself and if it does you're an absolute freak. I am sure you do this to all the rest of the coffee shops too, which is awful.
"I feel sorry for the rest of the staff now at Greggs that still have to deal with you and your ways. I am very glad I don't have to deal with you anymore - but just know we all know your ways and your gaslighting and how you try to get free stuff and you will not succeed in getting any of it for free."
The post prompted an angry reaction from locals, who called for Greggs to ban the customer from the store and other outlets. One said: "Should have been banned from the store after causing a scene."
Another added: "Ban him, anymore problems call police. Are there cameras? if so keep the footage." A third said: "You don't have to put up with that s**t ban him as you have the right to do that and if he keeps doing it put his photo up."
Greggs has been approached for comment, say BirminghamLive.
