A teenage girl is accused of driving a stolen SUV with four young passengers on board that led to a high-speed chase that ended when she crashed into a semi-trailer in Sydney’s west.
Officers from the Dog Unit spotted the 17-year-old driver speeding on the Great Western Highway at Eastern Creek just before midnight on Monday.
An attempt to pull the car over failed and a pursuit ensued.
“The SUV and a semi-trailer collided at the intersection with the M7 off-ramp minutes later,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The five teenage girls in the car ran into bushland nearby before being arrested.
The accused driver was injured when she was bitten by a police dog and was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard for treatment.
Four girls – aged 13, 14 and two aged 15 – have been released with a caution.
The alleged driver has been charged over the pursuit, for refusing to stop, driving recklessly, car theft, driving without a licence and breach of bail.
The truck driver was not injured.
Police will allege in court the SUV was stolen from a home in Lilyfield in Sydney’s inner west sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.
The girl was been refused police bail and will face a bedside hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
