Teen fears being shot at after reports of pub shooting

A teenager who witnessed "shots being fired" outside a Merseyside pub says she fears cars driving past.

Earlier this week, Merseyside Police were called around 6.45pm on June 8 to Arrowe Park Pub, in Woodchurch, after reports three men had run into the pub to take cover. The men are alleged to have shouted that shots had been fire at them from a car.

Emergency services swarmed to the scene and a large police cordon was seen in place as forensics worked. A separate cordon was also seen further down Church Lane, just being the shops.

One young woman was outside the pub with her dad just feet away from what she described the harrowing moment she heard "a loud bang and a flash". Millie, who wished to not have her surname published, said she has been left shaken after the incident and now fears cars driving past her.

The 17-year-old told the ECHO : "I was sat on the front with my dad and these three lads came up the steps where the car park is and a car came from the Woodchurch Estate driving really fast. The three lads seemed to have recognised the car and dropped to the floor as though expecting something.

"The shots went off, I just saw a flash. I was in shock. It was really scary. There's always shootings about here, it makes me worried to go out.

"It all happened very fast, within like ten seconds. At first I didn't click what was happening but it was like three feet away from me, not that far at all. I realised I was in shock because when I'm walking down the road, if a car is going past I'm scared I'm going to get shot at.

"You go out for a day and it's just not something you think will happen that you'll see."

Merseyside Police has since confirmed that investigations continue and there was evidence that "a discharge was found in the area".

Millie described how her day had gone from "bad to worse" as she said the "world is now a rubbish place". The teenager added her and her dad "didn't get chance" to drop to the floor at the time.

The ECHO previously reported that there were no injuries as police were investigating whether shots had been fired. It came after two other reported shootings on Merseyside within just three days - with shots fired at a house on Mill Lane in Wavertree on June 7 and Springvale Close in Kirkby on June 6.

It is not yet clear whether all the shootings are linked, however, police have said they believe the shootings are targeted.

Detective Inspector Darren Hankin previously said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation and will remain in the area to provide reassurance to the community and gather information.

“This initially appears to have been a targeted attack, but we’re keeping an open mind as to the circumstances. The use of weapons on our streets will not be tolerated and we know this will be an alarming incident for local residents. An extensive investigation is being carried out.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious on Arrowe Park Road or the surrounding area at around 6.45pm, or have captured home CCTV or dashcam footage, please do come forward in confidence as any information could be vital to the investigation.”
