A teenager who was seriously injured in a motorbike crash which killed a "kind hearted" 17-year-old from Irlam has been released from hospital as the police investigation into the crash continues.
Ben Smith was tragically killed when the motorbike he was riding collided with a moped on Holcroft Lane, Culcheth, a long country road in Cheshire which goes over the M62, at around 9.30pm on Monday July 18. Ben died at the scene of the incident and a 13-year-old boy who was also on the motorbike suffered serious injuries.
The other teenager has now been discharged from hospital, as police continue to try and figure out exactly what happened that evening. A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At around 9.30pm on Monday 18 July, officers were called to reports of a collision on Holcroft Lane, Culcheth. Sadly, 17-year-old Ben Smith, from Irlam, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"A 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been discharged. Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and officers are appealing to anyone who may have been on Holcroft Lane between 9pm to 9.30pm on that evening. The same goes to anyone who may have dashcam footage of a blue Suzuki moped or may have seen the vehicle in the area on that day."
A joint tribute released by Ben's family earlier this week called him a "kind hearted" boy who "made everyone laugh". It added: "He was deeply loved and will be missed by so many people. Always loved but never forgotten. A loving Son and Brother."
Anyone with information about the crash has been urged to report it through the Cheshire Constabulary website quoting IML 1320718, calling 101, or by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
