A 16-year-old boy has been charged with rape, false imprisonment, stalking and other offences over an alleged attack on a jogger at a walking track.

The woman had been running along a path at Jacana in Melbourne's west on the morning of August 14.

"She heard someone come up behind her. She was allegedly thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted," Victoria Police said in a statement.

"The woman was able to get away and ran to the car park, where two passers-by assisted and called police."

Police on Tuesday carried out a search warrant at a home in Melbourne's north.

The teen boy was arrested and charged with rape, stalking, false imprisonment, common law assault, recklessly cause injury, detention for a sexual purpose and two counts of sexual assault.

He will face a children's court.
