A teenager has been arrested after cops swarmed a Scots street amid reports of gunfire being heard at a property in the West Lothian area.
Glebe Road in Whitburn was locked down by officers as armed cops and riot vans scrambled to the scene following calls from panicked residents.
Officers say they received a report of an 18-year-old man in possession of a weapon within an address on the street at around 7.40pm on Sunday, January 30.
He was then arrested and cops say there was no threat to the wider public.
Neighbours on the quiet residential street reported seeing flashing lights as at least 10 police cars descended on the area.
Local roads were closed while officers dealt with the incident.
Videos from the scene showed at least a dozen emergency vehicles parked the length of the road.
The Police Scotland helicopter could be heard whirring overhead, but neighbours were kept in the dark as to the nature of the incident.
One resident said: “The lights just appeared outside from nowhere and before we knew it, the entire street was full of police.
“People have been saying there were gunshots earlier in the evening and there are armed police outside.
“We can hear the helicopter from inside the house. It has been going round for about half an hour now but we still don’t really know what is going on.”
Another added: "It was absolutely mental.
"There was a police car and a police van blocking the street out side my window that were there for 20 minutes then a fleet of police cars all came at the same time.
"I counted at least ten before the helicopter arrived."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.40pm on Sunday, January 30, police received a report of a man in possession of a weapon within an address at Glebe Road, Whitburn.
"There was no threat to the wider public, but local roads were closed as officers attended.
"An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
"He is expected to appear in court today (Monday, January 31).”
