Teen, 18, caught driving £200k McLaren supercar at 122mph - two days after buying it

A young McLaren driver had his £200,000 supercar seized by police after being caught speeding at 122mph along a motorway - just two days after he bought it. The 18-year-old motorist was spotted by traffic cops hurtling along in his newly purchased pride and joy.

He was pulled over and was unable to provide officers any insurance details, having only bought the car two days previously. Police said the luxury motor, which can travel at speeds in excess of 200mph, was seized and the driver was reported to court.

Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit shared details of the seizure on Facebook and wrote: "The 18-year-old driver of this McLaren drew attention to himself when he drove along the M40 at speeds of up to 122 miles per hour in front of our marked police car.

"We stopped the vehicle and unfortunately the driver was unable to show any insurance to us, having just purchased the car two days ago. Driver reported to court, vehicle seized."

Web users were quick to comment on the incident report, which was posted in the early hours of Monday morning, saying they were thankful the driver was stopped and questioning whether such a young driver should be behind the wheel of a powerful car.
