Teddy Sheringham makes Mauricio Pochettino statement and slams Manchester United approach

Teddy Sheringham has claimed Manchester United appointing interim manager Ralf Rangnick was 'ludicrous'.

Rangnick was appointed until the end of the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking in October. The German will move upstairs in a consultancy role in the summer and United's search for a new permanent manager is now underway.

There have been multiple names linked with the position at Old Trafford, but Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag seem to be the two leading candidates. Although both managers are currently in work at Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax respectively, United are understood to have shortlisted the pair, however, Sheringham believes it's Pochettino that should get the job.

Sheringham was recently asked about United's manager search and he revealed he thinks Pochettino is 'made for United'.

“Manchester City have a leader in their camp that demands 100 per cent commitment every time they go on to the pitch - Manchester United do not have those leaders in their camp at the moment," Sheringham told Lord Ping.

"People are trying to do their best individually, I have no doubt, but if they’re not getting led properly, which is what’s happening at United, then the holes appear. They’re not being led properly from the top.

"They have another interim manager, which is just ludicrous for me. I’d like to see Pochettino [take the job] - he’s made for United. The way his football dictates how they play. You don’t need another defensive-minded coach.

"You need someone that’s going to attempt to take the game to the opposition - the way United have done in previous decades. You need someone that’s going to control the ball, take the game to them and not have to run around and chase for it.”
