'Technical issue' triggers long queues at Manchester Airport as travellers complain

It’s the first day back at school for many children today — and with it comes the end of the summer holiday season where airports are full to the brim with sunseekers.

However, as the Manchester Evening News has reported frequently this year, Manchester Airport has had a turbulent time with long queues, delays, and disgruntled passengers. Even with school holidays coming to a close, it appears that issues remain at the airport.

This morning, ITV Royal Correspondent Chris Ship shared that there were ‘long, long queues’ for security, exacerbated by ‘broken down machines’. He wasn’t the only one to take to Twitter to vent his frustration.

Mr Ship said: “Early start at Manchester Airport today where the views of the morning skies are much more enjoyable than the terrible security control. Lots of long faces (including mine) in the long, long queues moving from one broken down machine to another.”

Julie Sims also criticised the airport’s security team, calling them the ‘worst and rudest ever’.

In response, a Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “A technical issue with our boarding card readers in Terminal One this morning meant that colleagues had to check passengers’ boarding cards manually for a brief period of time.

“This may have led to a slightly longer wait than usual for some passengers. The issue has now been resolved and the machines are functioning normally. We thank passengers for their patience whilst we rectified the issue.”

They added that security queue times did not top the 40-minute mark.
