The UK Health Security Agency says new Covid-19 variant Orthrus accounts for nearly a quarter of coronavirus cases in England - and data suggests it could represent 100 per cent of all cases in some areas.
Orthrus is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant and was first detected in November last year.
Symptoms include a sore throat, runny nose, congestion and a cough.
