The founder of Black Tech Festival which kicked off on Tuesday has said diversity in the technology industry is “bad”.

Ashleigh Ainsely said black workers are so heavily under-represented in the sector that they only account for less than three per cent of the UK tech workforce.

He said his event is all about networking, talking about new technologies, and helping new talent find ways into the industry.

Former Destiny’s Child singer and mental health advocate Michelle Williams will also be attending the event.

Humanoid AI robot Ai-da is due to give evidence at the House of Lords inquiry about whether creativity in the UK is under attack by technology.

It will be the first time an AI robot has given evidence in court in the UK.

Ai-da’s creator Aidan Meller said AI technology is coming in far quicker than anybody expected, and is going to be “changing all aspects of life”.

Ofcom’s warned a third of children aged between 8 and 17 have signed up for a social media account with a false date of birth so they appear to be over 18.

It is hoped the online-safety bill, which is still being worked on by the government, will compel platforms to protect their users from illegal, dangerous, and harmful content, with penalties for those who breach the new rules.
