Tech Industry Leaders Rally Behind Kamala Harris For Election Support

Joe Biden walks with Kamala Harris

Recent developments in the tech industry have shed light on the shifting landscape of political support leading up to the upcoming election. Initially, there was a noticeable trend of prominent figures in Silicon Valley backing Donald Trump. However, a series of events have highlighted the continued support for Kamala Harris within high-tech circles.

The momentum began with LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman publicly endorsing Harris on the same day that Biden exited the race. This was followed by Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings contributing a substantial $7 million to Harris's campaign. Additionally, a new initiative called VCs for Kamala was launched, boasting over a hundred venture capitalists committed to voting for Harris and raising funds on her behalf.

Further solidifying Harris's tech industry backing, executives from Google, Netflix, and OpenAI have united to organize a fundraiser in Washington, DC, scheduled for later this month. The event will feature key figures from Harris's past, including her former chief legal adviser and domestic policy advisor, with ticket prices ranging from $500 to $6,600.

The hosting committee for the fundraiser comprises policy executives from Google, Netflix, and OpenAI, along with senior personnel from JPMorgan, McKinsey & Company, and Omidyar Network. Notably, the Harris campaign recently announced record-breaking fundraising figures for July, with a significant surge in donations from Gen Z and millennial supporters, amassing a total of $310 million and amassing a war chest of $377 million.

These developments underscore the evolving dynamics of political alliances within the tech sector and the growing influence of high-profile industry players in shaping the electoral landscape.
