Team GB athlete prepares for Winter Olympics with training sessions in a freezer

This Team GB snowboarder is certainly very chilled when it comes to training…

Katie Ormerod is preparing for the Winter Olympics with sessions in a freezer at Aldi, alongside ready meals and pizza. The 24-year-old was offered use of the minus 19C storage room by the supermarket to train ahead of next month’s Beijing Games.

Katie said: “It’s not easy to find the right training conditions in the UK for a snowboarder. So when Aldi approached me I was intrigued.

“I can’t say that I’ve ever trained in a freezer before. It was fun. ”

Katie, of Brighouse, West Yorks, will compete in temperatures of minus 6C in Beijing.

Exercising in the freezer at Streatham, South London, helps her acclimatise.

This will be her first Olympics after pulling out of PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018 with injury.

Katie became the first Brit to win a World Cup snowboard slopestyle championship in 2020.
