The future look of General Motors’ Supercars effort took a significant step on Friday with confirmation that Team 18 will take on the role of its homologation team.
The Melbourne-based team, which runs two Camaro Supercars in the series, has competed with Holden and GM machinery since 2015 and operated as a two-car squad since 2020.
Team owner Charlie Schwerkolt has built up his team in recent years, employing vastly experienced engineers Adrian Burgess and Dr Geoff Slater, as well as their peers Richard Hollway, Som Sharma and Andrew Donnelly.
“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Team 18 Racing. There is no doubt that these are big shoes to fill, but I believe we have the team, the machinery, and the talent to do it,” Schwerkolt said.
“GM and Chevrolet Racing are a powerhouse for a reason, and everyone, at every level, has been fantastic in welcoming our team to the fold.
"I know we share the same vision, and the same goal – to work closely with GM and all the other Chevy teams to see a Chevrolet Camaro cross the line first every race weekend.”
Team 18 is likely to lead a significantly different homologation effort on the GM side of the Supercars pitlane, with the recent recruitment of current Triple Eight engineer Jeromy Moore likely to have him involved in the process in some role.
The news also locks Team 18 into racing Chevrolets for at least the immediate future, opening the door perhaps for current Chevrolet team Brad Jones Racing to move to Toyota for 2026 and beyond.
