Three people were taken to hospital following an attack at a school in Renfrewshire today.
Police descended on Johnstone High this morning around 10.45am amid reports of a “disturbance”.
The Paisley Daily Express has learned that a 16-year-old former pupil entered the school and began attacking pupils and teachers.
Meanwhile, students were locked in their classrooms for an hour while police patrolled the corridors.
Three female teachers – aged 34, 48, and 59 respectively – as well as a 14-year-old female pupil were taken to hospital for treatment after they sustained injuries during the incident.
Cops say a 16-year-old girl has been traced in connection with the incident. Both police and the school have confirmed that no weapon was used.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45am on Friday, May 12, police received a report of a disturbance at a school in the Johnstone area of Renfrewshire.
“Officers attended and four females aged 59, 48, 34 and 14 years were found to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident. The three women, aged 59, 48 and 34 years, were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley to be checked over.
“A 16-year-old girl has been traced in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson confirmed the 16-year-old was a former pupil – adding the school remained open following the attack with support being offered to pupils affected by the incident.
They said: “There was an incident at Johnstone High School today (Friday, May 12) involving a former pupil.
“A pupil and three teachers were injured and received appropriate medical treatment. Police Scotland attended immediately and the individual involved has been traced, with enquiries ongoing.
“The school continued to operate as normal and senior staff are providing any support needed to staff and pupils impacted by this incident.”
Johnstone councillor Andy Doig urged anybody with information about the incident to get in touch with the police and said: “Council officers have informed all of the Johnstone councillors about an incident that took place today at Johnstone High.
"They have informed us that the school got back to normal after the incident, as much as it possibly could, and I'm very glad that they've been able to do that.
"I would urge everybody – parents and pupils alike – to give the police every possible assistance in their enquiries in relation to this incident and what was the context and background to it."
