Bay Area School Places Teacher on Leave After Questioning Woke Kindergarten Program
Glassbrook Elementary School, located in the Bay Area, recently made headlines as a teacher's concerns about the effectiveness and high costs of the school's Woke Kindergarten program drew attention. The program, designed to confront white supremacy and disrupt racism, was implemented after the school district paid a hefty sum of $250,000 for teacher training.
According to reports in the San Francisco Chronicle, the school observed a decline in test scores after the adoption of the Woke Kindergarten program, prompting Elementary Teacher Tiger Craven-Neely to question the wisdom of investing such a significant amount of money into the program. Craven-Neely suggested that alternative approaches could have been more effective in improving student performance.
Shortly after his remarks were published, tensions arose at Glassbrook Elementary when teachers held a meeting to discuss the controversy surrounding the Woke Kindergarten program. The meeting reportedly became tense, with some individuals defending the program and criticizing Craven-Neely for speaking out against it. In a rather unfortunate turn of events, Craven-Neely was ultimately asked to leave the meeting.
As a consequence of his comments and subsequent meeting, Craven-Neely was summoned to a video conference and informed that he was being placed on administrative leave, thereby being asked not to return to the classroom. The school district, however, denies any connection between the teachers' grievances about the program and this action, stating that it did not intend to retaliate or suppress anyone's freedom of speech rights.
Interestingly, despite the concerns raised and the declining test scores at Glassbrook Elementary, the Woke Kindergarten program remains in use. Disturbingly, the statistics reveal that less than 12% of students at the school demonstrate proficiency in English, while less than 3% are performing at grade level in math.
