A teacher has received what might just be the best gift ever after his students created a book documenting his 'craziest' sayings.
The 152-page book was gifted to novelist and poet, Joseph Fasano, who clearly made an impression on his students.
Delighted by the surprise, the teacher from New York shared his appreciation online, where people were left in stitches by his hilarious lessons.
Among his collected wisdom were musings on Shakespeare, 'daddy issues' and 'bulls**t' theories. However, the educator was keen to emphasise his sayings were presented 'out of context'.
In a post to Twitter, @Joseph_Fasano_ wrote: "The best thing my students ever gave me.
"I thought they were just really diligent note-takers the whole semester, but it turns out they were compiling a book of all the craziest things I'd said, all *very much* out of context. It's 152 pages long."
He then shared a number of photos of the included quotes. "You once said in class that you wanted to be sure that what you were saying was being heard and absorbed. Well... here ya go," read the first, which goes to show you should be careful what you wish for.
Another said: "*Regarding Shakespeare* Some say that a glove maker's son couldn't have been so learned as to write all these plays, which is such classist bulls**t."
"Let's leave my mother out of it," continued a third. A separate point read: "No, I would not say Kafka had 'Daddy Issues'."
Meanwhile, a different quote advised: "Write to be immortal, not to be in the New Yorker." Taking a similar theme, another claimed: "Poetry will save your life that it has ruined."
Elsewhere, a student recorded: "There are no Sparknotes for life," before the book concluded: "In closing... Thank you for dealing with our crap all year long."
The thread quickly went viral, amassing over 80,000 likes and hundreds of replies.
"As a former school teacher, this is such an absolutely joyful example of how wonderful human beings can be when they feel seen and heard. Congrats to all of you for having crossed paths & hearts. And, this is education with heart. Love it! Thanks so much for sharing," someone praised.
A second thought: "Oh, for students to do that! (& in such neat & beautiful handwriting). They love you."
Mr Fasano replied: "And I love them! Students are the infinite gift."
