A teacher has been banned from the profession after having sex with a pupil. Dan Boulton also told a class that bisexual people are "just greedy" and said to a staff member he hoped a student would die of a brain haemorrhage.
A panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) heard Mr Boulton started working at Brine Leas School in Nantwich, Cheshire, in 2003. As reported by Cheshire Live, the 56-year-old engaged in a sexual relationship with the sixth form student between March and December 2015 - revealed when an anonymous call was made to the school.
In 2018, he made the comment about bisexual people during a PSHE lesson on the topic of sexuality. The panel heard LGBT students were present.
Around three months later, Mr Boulton told a staff member in reference to a pupil: "I ******* hate her. I hope she dies of a brain haemorrhage". In an email to the TRA in June 2022, Mr Boulton stated that he was deeply sorry.
He said his comments were not meant to cause offence or upset an individual. And they and were "merely an attempt at humour".
The disgraced teacher left the school later that year and an investigation was launched. Mr Boulton admitted the relationship with the sixth-former started in December 2014 and progressed to a sexual relationship the following March.
She visited his house during the relationship and they jointly agreed that they would not make it common knowledge until she had left the school. Their relationship then ended in December 2015.
Mr Boulton admitted the allegations and agreed his behaviour had amounted to unacceptable professional conduct. He was barred from teaching and cannot apply for the ban to be lifted.
Sarah Buxcey, decision maker named on behalf of the Secretary of State, concluded in the report: "Mr Dan Boulton is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England. Furthermore, in view of the seriousness of the allegations found proved against him, I have decided that Mr Boulton shall not be entitled to apply for restoration of his eligibility to teach."
