A teacher who travelled to Thailand to live and work was found hanged in his apartment, an inquest has heard. A cause of death has not been confirmed.
James David Michael, 27, from Cardiff, had moved to southeast Asia two and a half weeks before his death in order to take up a position as a teacher for a year. On February 13 Mr Michael was found hanged at his home in Thailand.
An inquest opening at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Thursday heard Mr Michael was identified on March 7 and a post-mortem examination was carried out at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on March 13. A provisional cause of death has not been given pending further investigation.
The court was told Mr Michael was born at Llandough Hospital on August 29, 1995, and lived in Fairwater. Coroner Patricia Morgan said there was reason to believe his death was "violent or unnatural" and adjourned an inquest into Mr Michael's death to allow for further investigation to take place. Ms Morgan expressed her condolences to Mr Michael's family.
