A teacher has blasted the "sad" school dinners being served to students after noticing a drop in standards. The public school teacher, who works in New York, America, claims to have seen a "big difference" in food quality over recent years.
Their outrage has promoted other New York students to share what they're being served up at lunch time, with many showing half-empty plates. Taking to Reddit, the teacher said: "This was today's school lunch. It was an alright-looking chicken sandwich - and it came with BBQ sauce. I think it’s hit or miss. This one was particularly sad. Never looks amazing though.
"I was seeing kids being served pretty good-looking chicken on the bone for the past few years. I see a big difference in the food they serve now."
The meal appears to be made up of one crispy chicken breast, two waffles, one slice of bread, a serving of pickles, one cauliflower floret and a packet of crisps.
Commenting on the meal, one user said: "I think jails and prisons have better food than New York public schools."
Another user added: "That's why I brown-bagged it throughout school all those decades ago."
A third user said: "This is not even acceptable for jail food. Prisoners are not any less human than schoolkids."
Since the teacher's post, other New York students have taken to social media to share the meals they're faced with during school hours.
One student ate only a slice of pizza with their milk and orange juice, while another was given no option but to eat just a serving of rice alongside three measly slices of courgette.
They said: "I didn't refuse anything, they ran out of stock.
"I've had to wait about 30 minutes for microwaved burritos in the plastic bag. Logistics are a nightmare sometimes.
"It's more common (at least at my school) for food supplies to run out by the end of the week than we like to believe."
