TE Zach Ertz cleared to return from knee injury, set to be ready in Week 1

The Arizona Cardinals should be making a roster move on Monday, marking the return of tight end Zach Ertz. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Ertz has been medically cleared to return to all football activities and is on track to play in Week 1, coming back from a torn ACL.

Ertz has been on PUP (physically unable to perform list) since the start of training camp. This news should prompt the Cardinals to activate him from PUP, allowing him to begin practicing with the team.

Ertz tore his ACL last year in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams. In 10 games, he had 47 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns. He was on pace to set the team’s single-season record for receptions by a tight end, a mark he tied in 11 games in 2021.

This news doesn’t likely mean we will see him in the preseason. The Cardinals play this Saturday and he isn’t likely going to be ready to play and, even if he were, the Cardinals might have held him out anyway. He likely would not play in the preseason finale in any case.

Getting Ertz back in the lineup should bolster the passing game.
