Calling upon the people of the State to join it and step up the fight against “sale of cheap liquor” in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP, on Saturday, launched a website – www.killerjbrands.com – to “make people aware of the banes of the ‘J-brands’ of liquor.”
Senior TDP leader Nakka Ananda Babu, Member of the Legislative Council P. Ashok Babu, and party’s State president for Anganwadis Achanta Sunitha formally launched the website at the party central office, and vowed to wage a war against the “YSR Congress Party’s misrule.”
Mr. Ananda Babu said many families from the poorer sections were falling a prey to illicit liquor, but Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was remaining indifferent to their woes.
There were 27 deaths due to consumption of illicit liquor at Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district, but the government did not think it necessary to make a statement on it on the Floor of the House, he alleged. The TDP leaders who had tried to question the “indifference” were sent out before the Chief Minister spoke on the issue, most of which was “a pack of lies,” he alleged.
Ms. Sunitha criticised the Chief Minister for “using government school teachers to stand guard outside liquor shops.”
Referring to TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Jangareddygudem to console the families of the “hooch victims,” she said the ruling party leaders tried to bring pressure on them to say that their bread-winners had died due to natural causes.
