TD Peter Fitzpatrick rejects Joanne Cantwell's claim that Ardee wasn't suitable for RTE cameras

Louth TD Peter Fitzpatrick has rejected Joanne Cantwell's claims that there was no footage of Louth's victory over Cork because Páirc Mhuire in Ardee wasn't suitable for RTE's cameras.

Because of Ardee's apparent unsuitability for cameras, the Wee County's game was the only match across the top two divisions to not receive a highlights package on Allianz League Sunday last night.

Fitzpatrick, who famously managed Louth in the 2010 Leinster final, refuted the RTE presenter's reasoning for the lack of coverage, pointing out that TG4 covered Louth's home clash with Kildare with no issues just a week ago.

"Joanne Cantwell on @TheSundayGame stated that Ardee was not suitable for @RTEsport cameras & not one second of coverage of the Louth v Cork game was shown, wrote Fitzpatrick on Twitter.

"Yet @SportTG4 were able to cover Lú v Kildare. Louth licence payers are livid - Does @RTEgaa have a problem with @louthgaa?"

The lack of coverage for Sunday's game has upset many in Louth who feel Ardee is a venue that is more than capable of hosting TV cameras.

"So Ardee is not conducive to RTÉ cameras and yet TG4 were able to cover the Kildare game? RTÉ covered Limerick vs Louth from UL's north campus last year and there are far better vantage points in Ardee. Nonsense excuse," wrote Caomhín Reilly.

While Ronan Mullen posted the following tweet:

"Great clip of James Califf's brilliant catch for Louth vs Cork today - which is just as well, because RTE weren't bothered to send one camera to the game."

After four wins on the bounce, Louth head into next week's game with Dublin knowing a win in Croke Park will secure promotion to Division One.

RTE said when approached for comment: "“With so many games across football and hurling in the leagues it is simply not possible to be present with cameras at every game.

"Yesterday's game featured on RTÉ radio and online and the key game against Dublin will feature next weekend.”
