Tayside Police urge patience for Slessor Gardens’ events this weekend

Tayside Police have urged visitors to be patient this weekend with large crowds expected in the city.

Officers advised drivers that some temporary road closures may be needed at certain times during the planned events.

Saturday and Sunday sees the first two events of the year at Dundee’s Slessor Gardens.

On Friday 20th, the city’s first Sausage And Cider Festival takes place between 6pm – 11pm, and on Saturday 21st the Ibiza Orchestra and guests will be playing some tunes between 4pm – 11pm.

A police spokesman told Dundee Live: “There are no planned road closures in the area for these events, but it is expected to be busy with a higher level of pedestrian traffic than usual in the area.

“The possibility exists that there may need to be very short temporary closures in the area, particularly at closing time of 11pm on Saturday, to allow crowds to disperse quickly and safely, so please be prepared for some disruption.

“We would also like to ask drivers in the area to be particularly aware of the higher numbers of pedestrians, especially on Friday, in case some of the event visitors may have, well, sampled a few too many of the ciders.”

And getting into the spirit of the summer of fun, they added: “Maybe next year we can have a doughnut festival. We can but dream.”
