Police officers in Tayside are appealing for information following a "serious" road crash which closed a section of the A90 Dundee to Perth road for 10 hours.
A 28-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries after being involved in the two-vehicle collision near to Bullionfield Garage, Invergowrie just after 1am on June 13.
As a result of the crash, involving a black BMW and a silver Skoda, the westbound side of the dual carriageway was closed between the Swallow Roundabout and Longforgan whilst a full collision investigation was carried out.
Soon after officers arrived at the scene, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance after a crash involving two vehicles which happened around 1.05am on Monday.
“A man and a woman have been taken to hospital and inquiries are ongoing.
“The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.”
One of the two lanes on the eastbound side of the A90 was also shut, causing long tailbacks during rush hour traffic, while commuters were also asked by police to find alternative routes between Dundee and Longforgan during the shutdown.
Diversion routes were put in place via the A923 to Coupar Angus, or the A92 Tay Road Bridge.
Many drivers and commuters had also chosen to drive along the Invergowrie to Longforgan ‘low road’, a country route which hugs the shore of the Tay and travels through Invergowrie and Kingoodie towards Longforgan and then on to Inchture.
After around seven hours at the scene, emergency services announced that the single eastbound lane closure was reopened by 7.55am.
A few hours later, at around 11am, a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “The A90 westbound between Dundee and Longforgan is now reopened following a crash earlier involving two vehicles.
“Motorists are thanked for their patience.”
An appeal to the public for information has now been launched.
Sergeant Brian McEwen, of Tayside Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a serious crash that occurred in the early hours of the morning when the roads were relatively quiet, however, I am appealing for anyone who may have seen either car prior to the crash or the crash itself to get in touch.
“I would also urge anyone with dashcam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with officers.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0284 of June 13.”
